Welcome!

Harold Gutmann is a reporter, writer and editor based out of Chapel Hill, N.C., where he lives with his wife and dog.

He is currently writing about college athletics as the University of North Carolina beat writer for the Durham Herald-Sun.  Look out for his upcoming Tar Heel football, basketball and baseball coverage and follow him on Twitter @haroldgut!

Harold is also the state beat writer for MaxPreps, a national website about high school sports, and has contributed to ESPN.com, NCAA.com, GoDuke.com and AOL’s Patch.com. He works as an editor for the Center for Faculty Excellence at UNC.

After graduating from Duke University in 2002, Harold spent seven years as a reporter at The Journal News, a New York City-area Gannett paper, where he won the 2005 Mighty Pen Award for a series of features leading up to the New York City marathon. He also worked across all kinds of media platforms — his hockey blog recorded almost 40,000 page views a week, he developed podcasts and video blogs, and he hosted an online weekly interview show.

Harold grew up in Chevy Chase, Md. (because if you’re going to name a town after someone it should be the 35th-funniest actor of our generation), and he still roots for Washington D.C. sports teams even though they haven’t won anything in 20 years.
